For students
Be the teammate who is ready to help.
A Student Emergency Response Team is a chance to learn real skills, practice with friends, and make a difference at school—with training and adult support every step of the way.
See what you can learn
What being on a SERT team looks like
Learn the basics
Start with how the team is called, scene safety, communication, and the first steps of patient assessment.
Practice together
Work through hands-on skills and realistic scenarios with an advisor and trained instructors before responding as a team.
Show what you've earned
Track your learning and, when you meet the requirements, view and share your awarded credentials. Some outside qualifications have separate requirements.
The moment you train for
“SERT Activate.”
During a normal school day, an announcement identifies where help is needed. Team members bring their medical bag, check the scene, and work together using the skills they have practiced.
Your team communicates with school staff and responders and documents what happened. SERT is about knowing your role and supporting the adults and professionals responsible for the emergency response—not handling an emergency alone.
Want a team at your school?
Ask a teacher, HOSA advisor, school nurse, or principal whether your school has a SERT team. If not, show them this site and ask who could help bring one to your school. A school leader or adult advisor can reach out to the program.
Your effort goes with you.
SERT gives you a place to practice teamwork and leadership while exploring healthcare and public-safety careers. When your school joins and you complete the relevant requirements, your student account can show credentials awarded to you and provide a printable record to share with colleges or employers.
