A Student Emergency Response Team gives high school students practical emergency response skills, leadership experience, and a clear path toward healthcare and public safety careers.

What is SERT?

Wisconsin SERT prepares high school students to respond safely, confidently, and compassionately during emergencies. Students learn alongside working EMS professionals, practice essential skills, and work together through realistic, scenario-based training.

Preparedness

Build practical skills for responding when help is needed.

Teamwork

Develop communication, leadership, and calm decision-making.

Career exposure

Explore healthcare and public safety through hands-on learning.

Credentialed learning

Complete program training and earn an official SERT credential.

What your school needs

Schools can begin planning with a few key pieces in place:

  • A Wisconsin high school ready to support a student response team.
  • An adult advisor or school coordinator to guide the team.
  • Students interested in emergency response, healthcare, or public safety.
  • Time for AHA- and FEMA-aligned preparation and hands-on training.

Tell us about your school

We’ll email SERT flyers, a sample meeting timeline, and the next steps for starting your team.
